1948

John A Savage Sr, while working with Shell Oil of Indiana helped develop innovative loading and odor (Vapor) control on gasoline trailers. First time the petroleum industry used bottom loading systems that would become a standard for today.

1950s

Boeing approached Shell Oil of Indiana to assist with increasing the rate of flow to refuel Boeing’s new 202 aircraft. John A Savage Sr and Shell came up with the first underwing fueling system utilizing hydraulic operated cut off valves.

1952

John A Savage Sr started JASI and was tasked with an innovated way of shutting of flow from the beer delivery carts. A “Spring Loaded Knife Valve” was created preventing the loss of beer during delivery. That Knife Valve would later be used in the petroleum industry.

1953

JASI working alongside Gilbert and Barker (now Gilbarco) developed the first and today still is, the only truly defined self-priming centrifugal pump. Known today as the Roto Prime Self Priming Centrifugal Pump.

1960s

JASI outfits the first 54 trailers for 6 oil service to be used by Hess Oil.

1962

John A Savage Sr., changes JASI into Meter and Maintenance.

1962

Meter and Maintenance Co., wrote and published two methods for making loading of petroleum trailers faster and safer. The first utilizing top tight systems and submerged loading to reduce static. Secondly a bottom loading system using opening and closing of hydraulic flow valves for flow control.

1962

Meter and Maintenance Co. is one of the first companies on the East Coast to market, sell and maintain the first mechanical truck register that could print out a ticket with volume delivered, cost per gallon and totals. That unit was the Lockhead Electronic Company 800 Series Register.

1963

Meter and Maintenance Co. provides the first low profile bottom transfer arm for aviation fueling trucks, this was done for Newark Airport, Newark, NJ. John A Savage incorporated Wheaton Brass Inc. (now Emco Wheaton), Brodie Meter, and Parker Hannifin hydraulically operated control valves.

1971

Meter and Maintenance Co. become the first to sell the Brodie Tranact Computer Register. The first electronic truck register utilizing a digital pulse signal and electronic controlled valve. The first of its kind that paved the way for the digital/electronic truck meter and register market.

1976

Brian Savage along with James McGill of Hydrotech Engineering Inc, develop and market a vacuum pressure-based vapor processing/recovery system. Replacing the older refrigeration style vapor recovery system and creating the standard for Vapor Recovery that is used today.

1976

Savage Technical Services (Division of Meter and Maintenance) is formed. The STS Division was manufacturing top loading tight connection “Vapor Heads” for gasoline trailer loading. The STS division was also responsible for continuing the manufacturing of the recently purchased G2 Grounding system from Gilbarco.

1979

Meter and Maintenance Co changes to Equipment Specialist Inc.

1987

Equipment Specialists Inc. (ESI), now Savage Associates Inc, provided the first Gasohol transfer system for Sun Oil company to transfer Gasohol into trailers to blend with gasoline for ADM Inc.

1988

Within one year after developing the Gasohol transfer system, ESI developed the means of blending Butylalcohol with gasoline.

1994

Savage Associates Inc. develops a truck high level control utilizing hydraulics. The design would become the basis for API 1004

1998

Brian and Greg Savage reincorporate as Savage Associates Inc. based on out Berkeley Heights, NJ. Savage Associates continues the mission of Equipment Specialists, being leaders in equipment system design and supply in the petroleum industry
